JCA Celebrates 2016 Deepawali Festival

Wish you Happy Deepawali and a Prosperous New Year.
Jain Center of America will be celebrating our 2016 Deepawali Festival from Saturday October 29, Sunday October 30, and Monday October 31, 2016.
Deepawali has a very special significance in our Jain religion - on this day Bhagwan Mahaveer, our 24th Jain Tirthankar, attained Nirvan or Moksh at Pavapuri and the following day, his chief disciple Ganadhara Gautam Swami attained Kevalgyan, which begins our Jain New Year - Veer Samvat 2543.
For 2016, Deepawali festival, JCA has scheduled following programs at the temple:

These holy days will be graced under the auspicious presence and guidance of Pujya Gurudev Shri Manak Muniji and three scholars Shri Pravinbhaiji Sanghavi, Shri Fulchandji Shastri and Pandit Mahesh Kumarji Jain.

Pujya Gurudev Shri Manak Muniji Maharaj: Pujya Gurudev Shri Manak Muniji Maharaj is a great Sadhak, philosopher and orator. Muniji took Diksha, from the renowned Acharya Shri Tulsi ji Maharaj at the young age of 14. After taking Diksha, Muniji immersed himself in studying Jain philosophy and scriptures. A great scholar of Jainism, Muniji also had a profound understanding of the essence of Hinduism and Buddhism. Muniji is particularly versed in Dhyan-Sadhana (meditation) and travels regularly all over India, Asia, USA and Europe to spread Jainism and it's teachings.

Shri. Pravinbhai J. Sanghavi: He hails from Walkeshwar, Mumbai. He had his Dharmik education for 6 years of complete course at Mehsana Pathsala with 5 Pratikaman, 9 Smaran, 4 Prakran, 3 Bhashya, 6 Karmagranth, Panchsangrah, Kshetra Samas, BrihadSanrahani, Tatwarth with Arth. He has experience of 30 Years of teaching as Dharmik teacher - 11 Years at Babu Amichand Panalal Adishwar Jain Temple and 9 Years at Shripal Nagar Jain Temple in Walkeshwar, Mumbai. Book written by Pravinbhai - Sutrarthsar Aatma Uddhar (2 Pratikraman Arth). Pravinbhai has done Paryushan Aradhana at various places including Japan, Singapore, Houston and New York (USA), Dubai, Bangkok (Thailand) & Israel.

Shri Fulchandji Shashtri: Fulchandji is the founder of Adhyatmik Sadhana Kendra, Umarala, Bhavnagar district of Gujarat (India) – a non-profit organization involved in charitable, medical, educational, religious and social activities for keen learners and the under privileged group. To fulfill Shrimad Rajchandra’s dream he has initiated ‘The Atma Siddhi Shastra Mission’ to preach and preserve this ultimate spiritual guide in 142 countries with 415 languages translations and establish it at 1,00,000 centers across the globe by Guruji’s 150th birth anniversary on November 4, 2017. He is a visionary writer who has penned more than 35 books on Humanity, Spirituality, Truth, Non-Violence, Vegetarianism and the preaching of Omniscient God and how these could be used to live a life with Soul awareness. He is fluent in 18 national and international languages and has travelled to more than 53 countries to spread message of non-violence and vegetarianism.

Pandit Mahesh Kumar Jain: Pandit Mahesh Kumar Jain is a renowned scholar who has studied and taught various religious scriptures including: Tatvartha Sutra, Sarvarth Sidhi, Karma Kand, Ratnakarand Shravakachar, Samayasaar, etc. He has studied and done in-depth analysis of Karnanuyoga. He was the head Lecturer in the Shri Jain Shraman Sanskriti Sansthan in Jaipur, India. Pt. Mahesh Kumarji has over thirteen years of teaching experience. He has taught in various colleges including ones in Jaipur and Madhya Pradesh. He has given lectures and conducted workshops at various places in India and USA.

Each year, JCA organizes the Cultural Program to celebrate Mahaveer Bhagwan Janma Kalyanak in which over 1,000 to 1,500 Jains along with their families from around the Tri-State area attend to celebrate the religious festivities and cultural programs. We are pleased to have the opportunity to organize this incredible event for all the community to take part in again.

JCA Election Announcement - Forms - Deadline March 1, 2016

The Election Committee is announcing the Election process for the 2016 to 2019 term. All members who are interested in contesting must complete the (2) two attached forms (Certification of Nomination and Nomination Form) and submit them together. Please review the eligibility and requirements before submitting the completed forms.

This letter and forms has been emailed to the members whose email addresses are on file with JCA on December 21st, 2015 and again on January 20th, 2016, then final reminder sent on February 2nd, 2016, but due to not enough responses and might be many members are out so give them chance to fill up the forms, election committee has decided to extend the deadline until March 1st, 2016Additional forms will also be available at the Temple as well as at the JCA web site nyjaincenter.org to download and print.

As per the constitution of Jain Center of America, and the decision of Board of Trustees, nominations for the following positions are invited for the period from July 1st 2016 to December 31st 2019.
Board of Trustees from Benefactor Members (5) Five positions by selection
Board of Trustees from Patron Members (5) Five positions by selection
Executive Committee (13) Thirteen positions by election
Board of Trustees from General Membership (3) Three positions by election


This letter is an official notice of invitation of nominations from the members to contest the upcoming election.

The date, time and place for the election and selection are as follows:
Date: Sunday, April 10th 2016
Time: 11:00 AM to 04:00 PM
Place: Jain Center of America, 43-11 Ithaca Street, Elmhurst, NY 11373
Note: Positions for Board of Trustees from Benefactor and Patron members will be allotted through a selection process, and the election by voting process will be followed for all other positions.

All Nomination forms and Certification of Nomination forms fully completed and signed, must be mailed to the address below, no later than post mark date March 1st, 2016. Any nomination received which is postmarked with a date later than the above date will be considered invalid.

Election Committee will not be responsible for any loss of nomination forms in mail. It is recommended that all Nomination form and Certification of Nomination form are sent by certified mail. Personal or Hand delivery to anyone, anywhere is not acceptable.

Following are some of the Election Guidelines based on the Constitution:
  1. All voting members eligible to be a Nominator to nominate a nominee must at least (21) year of age.
  2. Members over age 21 & in good standing shall have the right to vote. Both the spouses are eligible to vote in person per each valid membership.
  3. Anyone under the age of 21 is not eligible to vote, & children over 21 years have to be members in their own capacity, which would give them their own right to vote based on their own membership number.
  4. To be eligible to vote, the effective date of membership must be at least 1 year old & the minimum dues for membership have been paid in that year. The effective date of membership is considered to be the date on which the membership was approved by the Executive Committee. So the effective date of this membership should have been before April 10, 2015.
  5. All members will be required to show positive identification to prove their identity and it is the responsibility of the member to prove their eligibility to vote.
  6. Voting will be by secret ballot in person and the ballot will be issued to the eligible voting member at the polling station. No absentee ballot will be allowed. Members eligible to vote must be present to vote.
  7. No Canvassing will be allowed within 50 feet of the premises of the NY Jain Center on the day of election.
  8. Immediately after the election, counting & selection from patron nominees process will take place in the temple. At the counting station, each contestant or one of their designated representative will be permitted to observe counting & selection. The Election Committee will announce the final & official results of the election & selection process, & will inform the Board of Trustees in writing.
  9. No more than 13 nominees should be marked with your votes for Executive Committee and no more than 3 nominees should be marked with your votes for Trustees from General Membership position . Any ballot with more than the maximum specified numbers of votes in any category, than that category with excess votes will be treated as an invalid ballot for that category.

    We request all members to exercise his and/or her voting privilege. Let us make this Election and Selection process a fair and successful one with your full cooperation.

Jain Center of America, New York invites you to attend the Annual General Body Meeting on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at 2:00 PM at our Temple, 43-11 Ithaca Street, Elmhurst, NY 11373. The alternate date (in case of inclement weather) is Sunday, December 13, 2015 at 2:00 PM at our temple.
The meeting will commence at 2:00 PM sharp. However, in the absence of a quorum, the meeting will start at 2:30 PM, as per the JCA Constitution.
The Agenda for the General Body Meeting is as follows:
•  Prayer
•  Activities of JCA - Reports by Chairman/President
•  Annual Report - Secretary/ Administrator
•  Financial Statements for the year 2014 - CFO/Treasurer
•  Explanation of the budget for 2016 & approval by the General Body - CFO
•  Any other matter related to JCA (should be approved for discussion by Chair)
If you wish to present any other issues or concerns at the General Body Meeting, please write, fax or e-mail the Secretary, Chairman or JCA Manager before November 30, 2015.
The 2014 JCA financial statements and the 2014 JCA General Body minutes will be available on the JCA website and at the temple from December 1, 2015 onwards. Mr. Manojkumar Mehta, JCA Manager, will show a copy of the accounts or minutes upon request. Please feel free to contact him.
Lunch will be served starting at 12:00 PM in our Bhojanshala.
Participation at the meeting is a privilege and duty of all members of JCA and your attendance at the meeting would be greatly appreciated.
